Regain a Healthy Smile

Dental Implants St. Joseph

Dental Implants St. JosephWhen patients experience tooth loss, whether due to tooth decay, trauma, or gum disease, it can take a toll not only on their oral health, but on their self-esteem as well. Many are reluctant to smile or even introduce themselves to new people. Dental implants, offered at our St. Joseph and Kansas City locations, are a safe, effective way to replace teeth and help patients take back their confidence.

With over 18 years of dental experience, Dr. Mark Bagby is able to restore health to the mouth and provide patients with a new, natural-looking smile that they can be proud of. If you have been affected by tooth loss and are interested in finding out if you are a candidate for dental implants, contact our dental practice today.

What are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are titanium roots that are surgically implanted in the jaw to make the placement of a long-lasting dental restoration such as dental crowns, bridges, or fixed dentures, possible. Implants are a comprehensive treatment that can be used to replace a single tooth, or several teeth. After surgery, dental implants actually fuse to the jaw bone, providing strength that is incomparable to other restorative options. By allowing for the placement of a restoration, dental implants not only restore the look of the smile, but also prevent further erosion or infection of the gum and jaw bone.

The Placement of Dental Implants

Receiving dental implants actually requires a series of dental appointments spread out over several months. The length of time required for the entire restoration to be complete varies with each patient based on the number of implants being placed, and the patient’s healing time. The actual implants will be implanted into the jaw during oral surgery. During this time, temporary restorations are placed in the mouth and remain there until the patient’s gums have fully healed. During follow-up appointments, Dr. Bagby will assess the condition of the gums, and determine if the implants have properly fused to the jaw bone. Once this has occurred, in a process that is known as osseointegration, the patient can visit the practice to have his or her crown, bridge, or denture fitted and placed.

The Benefits of Dental Implants and Restorations

Dental implants give patients who have experienced tooth loss a chance to have the healthy, attractive smile that they deserve. Although the process for receiving dental implants does require a significant time commitment, the final results of the procedure are well worth it. When completed, dental implants and restorations provide the following benefits:

  • Restore the appearance of the smile
  • Prevent further tooth and gum infection, as well as bone erosion
  • Maintain jaw alignment to ensure proper bite and avoid jaw disorders
  • Support facial structure
  • Provide a more stable and permanent alternative to removable dentures
  • Increase daily comfort while speaking and eating
  • A long-lasting solution to tooth loss
  • Provide natural-looking results
